The manufacture of fuel grade bioethanol through hydrolysis, fermentation, and purification via distillation and adsorption. This research will study the effect of zeolite adsorbent concentration on the ethanol purification. Fuel grade bioethanol must have a minimum concentration 99.5%. Bioethanol is ethanol derived from biomass. Suweg ( Amorphophallus campanulatus B ) is a sweet tuber which has starch content around 77%, it is suitable as raw material for fuel grade bioethanol production. Initial reducing sugar concentration for ethanol production was 34.8 g/L, while a maximum ethanol concentration (over 50 g/L) was achieved during fermentation 60 h. It was found that ethanol 71.84 g/L (sweet cassava) and 68.65 g/L (bitter cassava) and the maximum productivity of ethanol (Qeth) were 2.24 gL⁻¹h⁻¹(sweet cassava) and 1.97 gL⁻¹h⁻¹(bitter cassava). The optimum condition of the process was fermentation using concentration of substrate 200 g/L, concentration enzyme 2% (w/w), pH 4.5 and 30 ☌, for 60 h. Indeed, the cyanide decreased the activity of the enzyme. The concentration of ethanol which produced from sweet cassava starch (42 ppm of cyanide) higher than bitter cassava starch (168 ppm of cyanide). The cyanide content in tuber cassava affected the ethanol production. The concentration of starch was 200 g/L, concentration of enzyme were 1 and 2% (w/w), while the concentration of yeast was 1% at pH 4.5. Granular starch hydrolysing enzyme (GSHE) was used in the process of hydrolysis to degrade starch into reducing sugar at 30 ☌ and pH 4.
